Getting Started
Your first conversation
Deputy works like texting a person — no commands, no special syntax.
Once you're signed up, just text Deputy like you'd text a colleague. There's no onboarding flow, no setup wizard. Just say what you need.
Example messages to try
Here are some starter messages across the things Deputy handles best.
Calendar
"What does my week look like?"
"Block two hours Thursday afternoon for focused work."
"Draft a follow-up email to a client I met at a conference last week. Keep it short and friendly."
"Write a cold outreach email to a small marketing agency introducing my freelance design services."
Research
"Give me a quick overview of Notion's pricing model and how it compares to Coda."
"What are the main things I should know before a call with a Series A SaaS founder?"
Tasks
"Every Monday morning, text me a summary of my week ahead."
"Remind me to follow up with Marcus in 3 days if I haven't heard back."
General
"What can you actually do?"
"I want you to always write emails in a direct, no-fluff tone."
Tips for getting the best results
- →Be specific. The more context you give, the better the output. Instead of "write an email," try "write a follow-up email to a client who hasn't responded in a week — keep it warm but nudge them toward a decision."
- →Correct it naturally. If Deputy gets something wrong, just say so in plain language. "Make it shorter," "change the tone to more formal," or "that's not quite right — he's a warm lead, not cold" all work fine.
- →It remembers. Deputy builds a picture of your preferences over time through persistent memory. The more you use it, the less you have to explain.
What Deputy does in the background
Deputy isn't just responsive — it can also work proactively. When you set up a scheduled task, Deputy runs it in the cloud on your behalf even when you're offline and texts you with results.
This is especially useful for things like:
- →Scheduled tasks — weekly digests, recurring research reports, regular check-ins. Learn more
- →Lead follow-up sequences — set rules for who to follow up with and when, and Deputy handles the drafts. Learn more
