SMS

No app to download, no account to log into — just text.

Getting set up

When you sign up, you provide your phone number. Deputy will send you a text to confirm. Save that number in your contacts — that's the number you'll text every time you want to reach Deputy.

There's nothing else to configure to get started. The number works immediately after signup. Shortly after, your Deputy agent is also assigned its own email address. Share it with contacts who prefer to reach your agent by email.

How to interact

Text Deputy the way you'd text a colleague who's very capable and doesn't mind detailed instructions. No special commands, no syntax to remember.

A few examples of what to send:

  • "What's on my calendar today?"
  • "Draft a follow-up to the client I met yesterday."
  • "Remind me to call James on Thursday morning."
  • "Every Monday, text me a summary of my week ahead."

For more examples, see Your First Conversation.

Availability

Deputy is available 24/7. It runs in the cloud, which means it responds to your messages at any hour and executes scheduled tasks even when you're offline. You're not limited to business hours or dependent on having an active internet connection when a task runs — just when you want to send a message or read a reply.

Limitations of SMS

SMS is Deputy's current channel. A few things to be aware of:

  • Message length is handled automatically — Deputy will break long responses into multiple texts if needed.
  • SMS doesn't support rich formatting like tables or bullet points natively — Deputy adapts its responses to plain text.
  • More channels are coming. See Upcoming Channels for what's planned.
