Funding your agent

Deputy's pay-as-you-go model

Free to sign up. Pay-as-you-go after that — you only pay when Deputy does work.

The short version

  1. 1Sign up free — no credit card required. You start with $3 in free credits.
  2. 2Interact with Deputy — each task Deputy completes draws from your balance. Idle time costs nothing.
  3. 3Top up when needed — add more balance whenever your account runs low. Most users spend way under $1/day.

Your free credits

Every new account starts with $3 in free credits — no credit card needed. A small portion of this is used automatically during setup:

What happens Cost
Starting credit $5.00
Phone number provisioning — Deputy claims a dedicated phone number for your agent, so you can chat over SMS −$2.00
Avatar generation — a contact card image is created when you name your agent −$0.08
Remaining to explore with $2.92

That leaves you with $2.92 to start sending tasks, exploring what Deputy can do, and getting a feel for the value before you commit to adding more balance.

What you're replacing

Deputy handles tasks that people typically pay for with multiple separate subscriptions.

What is ATXP?

ATXP stands for Agent Transaction Protocol. It's the infrastructure layer that Deputy runs on — handling billing, LLM access, tool integrations, and task execution behind the scenes.

What this means for you in practice: you don't need to sign up for OpenAI, manage API keys, or configure any of the underlying services Deputy uses. ATXP handles all of that. When you fund your Deputy account, you're funding one balance that covers everything Deputy needs to do its job.

It's also why Deputy can offer true pay-as-you-go pricing — ATXP bills at the task level, not the subscription level, so you pay for what Deputy actually does.

No surprise charges

Deputy will never spend beyond your account balance. If your balance runs low, Deputy will notify you. If it reaches zero, tasks pause until you top up. There are no overages, no surprise bills, and no subscriptions that charge you whether you use it or not.
